It must have been a groundbreaking experience to attend one of Count Basie's concerts, especially in the first one and a half decade after the second world war in Germany when people were longing for those new rhythms coming from over the big pond. When Basie and his gang came to Berlin the city was divided, ripped apart by two rivalling political systems, the Western allies and the communists. And so this concert was also a demonstration for the freedom of spirit and the freedom of art. Give this concert a good listen and it will give you goose-bumps! Enjoy and keep the memory alive!
